Fried Chicken Sandwich with Slaw and Spicy Mayo recipe. I just made these with a different epicurious chicken cutlets and regular pickles and it was incredible. I would remake it with spicier mayo next time. So good WOW! OMG Fantastic! Made this exactly as directed: exact ingredients in the exact proportions as called for. Used Brioche buns. The slaw makes this: resist the temptation to substitute some other kind of pickle instead of bread and butter - I bought a jar just for this recipe and it was worth every penny.

I did soak the onions in water for a bit after slicing (as I always do for anything calling for raw onions) to reduce that raw onion "bite" that can overwhelm everything. Excellent! Based on tips from other reviewers, I added a bit of cayenne to the dredge and some chipotle puree to the mayo. I also brined the chicken first, which really upped the flavor. Delicious. I used just the spicy coleslaw on toasted Ciabatta bread. We had some leftover pan- fried walleye that I reheated briefly till crispy.
Delicious! will make this again with chicken sometime. Fast weeknight dinner. Yummy! Really important to serve with coleslaw and lots of spicy mayo! I made this exactly as written and it was perfect!
Be sure to transfer to a wire rack so the chicken stays crisp. The slaw is perfect on it and jalopeno gives it just the perfect amount of heat!
Very tasty. My husband loved it. I was a bit disappointed that although crispy coming out of the pan it didn't stay crisp.

After reading some reviews stating that it needed more flavor I chose to roast some garlic and use that in my mayo mixture and I added a little thyme to the flour, otherwish I followed it exactly and it was the best chicken sandwich I've ever had! The slaw is amazing! Loved this!! Followed all except can't bring myself to fry in oil. Used panko instead of flour and sauteed in nonstick pan.
As with other reviewers I'm not a big bread & butter pickle fan but in this application they rocked. We had it sans bread so I just mixed the spicy mayo into the slaw ingredients and would probably do the same if making sandwiches. I did add some additional seasoning to the flour for dredging chicken (a little chipotle, smoked paprika, thyme). I like the idea of grilling the chicken or using some store- bought rotisserie chicken if making sandwiches. It was very good for a weeknight dinner, but I have to say after reading all the glowing reviews, not spectacular. Tasty, but not really exceptional - although I will agree with a previous reviewer that I don't generally care for ingredients like bread & butter pickles, but in this they blended well and were quite good.

This recipe is definitely going. Who knew such simple ingredients when combined would be so good! Made these sandwiches with a friend this weekend and they were great. I may try them on the grill when the weather gets better and I can grill outdoors. The slaw rocks! Excellent and easy since, as the reviewer below mentioned, I'm not into frying chicken, so I baked some frozen, breaded chicken tenders from Whole Foods and loaded them on the buns with the slaw and mayo. A really great combo of flavors.
If you are not into frying chicken at least try the slaw, dynamite tasting salad. Wow! This was great. I was a little scared at first but the flavors together were pretty good!! This sandwich rocks. I despise mayo and bread- and- butter pickles by themselves, but putting all together with these ingredients makes something magical. I've made this 4 time in the past 2 weeks and it's not getting old.

Recipe From Mark Bittman - Spicy Coleslaw Cabbage Salad With No Mayo. Makes: 8 servings. Time: 3. 0 minutes. If you want restaurant- style coleslaw, you take shredded cabbage and combine it with mayo and maybe a little lemon juice.
This version is far more flavorful with far less fat. I like cabbage salad (which is what coleslaw amounts to) on the spicy side, so I use plenty of Dijon, along with a little garlic and chile (you could substitute cayenne for the chile or just omit it if you prefer), and scallions. Recipe from How to Cook Everything. Dijon mustard, or to taste. Thai, serrano, or habanero, or to taste (optional)1/4 cup peanut oil or extra virgin olive oil. Napa, Savoy, green, and/or red cabbage. Salt and freshly ground black pepper. To make the dressing, whisk together the mustard and vinegar in a small bowl, along with the garlic and chile.
Add the oil a little at a time, whisking all the while. Combine the cabbage, bell pepper, and scallion and toss with the dressing. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and refrigerate until ready to serve. It’s best to let the slaw rest for an hour or so to allow the flavors to mellow; the cabbage will also soften a bit and exude some juice. You can let it sit longer, up to 2.
