Add the lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, anchovy and garlic and whisk to combine. Slowly drizzle in the olive oil until the mixture emulsifies. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate until ready for use. For the croutons: Cut the baguette on an angle to create thin, oval slices about 1/4- inch thick. On a large baking sheet, arrange the slices evenly.

Brush the bread with olive oil and top with the Parmesan and thyme. Season with salt and pepper. Bake until the Parmesan is melted and the croutons are golden brown around the edges, 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool. Store in an airtight container if not using immediately.

Caesar dressing and romaine are a strong duo -- the lettuce is not overwhelmed by the dressing, which is also good over a tomato salad. All hail this classic dressing. I'm one of those weird people who actually crave salad. Andrew goes away for his work a lot, and usually one of the first things that flips through my mind on these.

Caesar salad dressing is one of those rare treats. That’s because every store bought bottle contains nasty ingredients. Thankfully, you can make a homemade Caesar.

For the salad: Core the romaine and trim the top 1/2 inch off the leaves. Fan the leaves out on a serving plate (or chop into 1/2- inch pieces if you prefer). Sprinkle the Parmesan over the lettuce and drizzle the dressing on top. Top with 2 to 3 croutons per plate and serve.

I love, love, love my homemade taco seasoning mix. It’s convenient, cheap and oh- so- tasty. And I’m mixing up a new homemade seasoning mix today…this time for ranch dressing! This past weekend I planted some lettuce and other cold weather veggies (more on that this weekend).  I try to eat a salad for lunch everyday and usually mix up a quick vinaigrette (yeah for cheap olive oil this week!).  And while I love my vinaigrettes, I also like variety.  I’ve been craving ranch dressing lately and much prefer this homemade version.  While I wait for the fresh parsley, dill and basil to grow up in the garden and be ready for some “fresh herbs” ranch dressing mix, I plan on using this version with the dried spices until then. I also love this because it costs a fraction of what you would pay for a packet at the store, and makes twice as much! Before we get to the recipe, how about a few homemade seasoning mixes to try out!
